Pedersen gets his hands in the air for the second time in three days on stage 3 of the Giro d'Italia.
The Lidl-Trek train was running like clockwork on today’s third stage in Albania. The plan was simple – set a strong pace on the final climb and drag race it down to the finish line. With another picture-perfect lead out, Pedersen executed a powerful sprint to defeat second place finisher Corbin Strong (Israel-Premier Tech). This victory awarded Pedersen a 10-second time bonus, allowing him to reclaim the Maglia Rosa. With this win, Pedersen not only strengthens his position in the general classification but also leads the points classification.
In Mads' words...
This was the plan from this morning - put a good pace in the long climb to control it for ourselves and give me a breath so I didn't have to go over the limit. Everyone from the team just did super amazing on the climb and also before. From the climb then it was controlling as much as we could, and then we hoped for some drag racing and it was exactly as we wanted. Cicco and Vacek did an amazing lead out, so, wow, to have two stage victories already and now back in the pink, that's exactly what we wanted today. Having Cicco in the lead out too, it shows something about his character and the person he is. He has ambitions somewhere else but still, he is committed to the team, and helping me in a lead out like this. This shows what we can do on Lidl Trek and we are supporting each other everywhere. I can't wait to come to the mountains and give back to Cicco.
Mathias Vacek leads the youth classification and wears the Maglia Bianca. He holds an 11-second advantage over Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates-XRG). Mathias sits in third on GC.
